Who We Are

Mission: To empower seniors with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their benefits.

VAS was created in 1977 as part of a nationwide effort by the Junior League to provide information on insurance alternatives for senior community members, and to demonstrate that elderly residents of the community can be a resource for solving problems. Today, VAS continues to be an advocate for senior rights and privileges, providing community education and individual counseling to seniors, caregivers and professionals who work with seniors.

What We Do

VAS offers Medicare counseling and education, and Homestead Exemption assistance. Using a network of trained, certified volunteers, VAS provides free, unbiased education and counseling to seniors in Omaha and surrounding communities. VAS is continuing to serve seniors mainly by phone, but is offering some in person services.. In 2021, VAS helped 657 households save over $1.6 million in property taxes, and had over 6500 client contacts to help them save over $1.2 million in healthcare costs. VAS is a non-profit 501(c)3 located in Omaha, Nebraska.
