We’re America’s oldest voluntary health organization, founded in 1904 as the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis? dedicated to combating tuberculosis (TB), the most dreaded disease of the time. Over a difficult 50-year fight, we played a critical role in developing and funding increasingly effective weapons to prevent, detect and treat the disease. By 1954, tuberculosis was largely controlled in the U.S. For over 100 years, the American Lung Association has led the fight for healthy lungs and healthy air. Today, our fight is more important than ever.
