About us
Children’s Square U.S.A is a private, not-for-profit organization founded on December 23, 1882, and incorporated on March 16, 1883.
Children’s Square U.S.A. has a rich history of caring for children from birth to 21 and
their families, meeting their individualized needs, instilling hope and helping restore
lives. Our mission is: “Building a bright future for children and families.” We do
this by teaching, every day, the values and life skills essential to a successful life –
one full of caring, contribution and commitment. Empowering each with: The Vision to
See – and the value of setting an ideal for which to reach; The Courage to Try – and the
value of accepting each obstacle as a challenge to meet; and The Will to Succeed – and
the value of making the commitment to persevere.”
What We Do
Every day, over 1000 children, youth, and families in Iowa and Nebraska who have behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric needs. Services include early childhood care and education programs, an on campus
Iowa Department of Education approved special education program for
grades 1-12; community mental health services (outpatient); children’s emergency
shelter services; recruitment, training and support of foster families, adoptive families,
and relative homes; supervision of children placed into foster care; psychiatric
residential treatment for children with moderate to severe mental health diagnoses.
aftercare services and support for youth who have aged or are aging out of foster/group
care: patient-centered, coordinated care for children with a serious emotional
disturbance (SED); and supportive in-home interventions and skills building for youth and families.
Children’s Square U.S.A. is fully licensed and accredited. The annual operating
budget for 2022 was $8,810,969. Approximately 120 full- and part-time employees
deliver programs and services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Volunteers add
their hearts and hands to make a difference in a variety of ways. The main campus
is located just northwest of the downtown Council Bluffs area. Additional offices are located in Omaha at 50th and Leavenworth.
